Elbow Prosthesis- For a New found Mobility

Elbow or elbow joint - articulation between the shoulder and forearm.

The elbow joint is formed by 3 bones - the elbow, the radial, and the humerus. In its structure, it is a complex articulation of bones, consisting of 3 simple joints - the brachial, brachial and radicular. This joint is protected by a capsule with articular (synovial) fluid and strengthened by a ligamentous apparatus.

The hand and elbow joint, like other parts of the body, are susceptible to various diseases, injuries and so on.

The bone of the arm, the humerus is connected by ligaments to the radius and the ulna (or ulna) which are themselves connected to each other by other ligaments. This system allows the movements of flexion, extension and small rotation.

The role of a prosthesis is to allow the joint to continue to function. Some replace it altogether, and others alternate on a part, for example, between the humerus and the radius, or between the radius and the ulna.

Diseases of the elbow joint arise on the basis of traumatic, infectious-inflammatory and trophic changes. Proximity to the joint of the nerve trunks leads to the fact that nearby nerves can be involved in damage - ulnar, radial and medial. Traumatic injuries in the elbow joint area or distal to it more often than elsewhere are complicated by blood circulation disorders, in which the arm can save only early surgical intervention, impossible without the early recognition of the vascular complication.

Diagnosis of various diseases of the elbow joint usually does not cause difficulties for specialists of joint replacement surgery in India. It is because the elbow joint is well available for examination and various diagnostic procedures.

Diagnosis of ulnar joint diseases includes examination, questioning the patient and conducting special diagnostic methods. More often the diagnosis can be put already on the basis of a characteristic clinical picture. To determine the degree of inflammation, a general clinical blood test and specific laboratory tests are performed. Obligatory is the radiography of the elbow joint.

Treatment of pathologies of the elbow joint. Therapy of diseases of the elbow joint is based on the analysis and processing of data obtained from diagnostic studies. In inflammatory processes, NSAIDs are shown to contain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy is also used, and special exercises are prescribed from the course of physiotherapy exercises.

The main pathologies of the elbow joint, which can lead to arthroplasty of the joint:

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Compound fracture of the elbow, including in old age

  • Severe damage or rupture of soft elbow tissue

  • Malignant neoplasms in the joint or around the angle

  • Negative results of the previous operation on the elbow

Today, the most advanced implant models are used by reputable world manufacturers of orthopedic materials. The patient can be installed as a hinged metal prosthesis and hinge-less implant from silicone at knee replacement surgery in India. Both these types of implants have their merits; the patient will be informed about them by the doctor.

Minimal invasive techniques of orthopedic operations and navigation endoprosthetics are widely used in clinics in India.
