Benefits of PET / CT
The uniqueness and advantages of cancer diagnosis using PET CT scan are not only in its convenience and safety for the patient but also in the ability to obtain the complete data on the functioning of individual organs and tissues of the body. The method allows to detect the smallest tumor foci in the body at the earliest stages of development of the pathological process, as well as to conduct early diagnosis of relapses and metastases.
PET / CT is used both for the primary diagnosis of tumors and for:
Differentiation of malignant and benign tumors;
Determining the stage of tumor disease - detection of damage to lymph nodes and other organs;
Evaluation of treatment outcomes;
Timely diagnosis of relapse;
Detection of neurological and cardiac diseases based on changes in metabolism.
Does this PET-CT system have side effects?
No, no side effects have been detected after the test in the short or long term.
Neither does the substance administered for the diagnosis pose any risk since it is glucose with a small dose of a radioactive isotope fluorodeoxyglucose (F18-FDG) that is administered to the patient intravenously and is eliminated in a short period. This does not affect diabetic patients since the amount used does not alter the glycaemia figures.
Should I have any precautions after performing this test?
As with other tests related to Nuclear Medicine, it is recommended to avoid direct contact with children and pregnant women during the following hours. Drinking plenty of water will help eliminate the injected substance, which is not problematic in any case.
The advantages of PET / CT over other types of diagnostics:
Painless and safe diagnostic method
The procedure can be carried out on an outpatient basis and does not require surgical intervention.
Detects a neoplasm due to changes in the metabolism and structure of organs and tissues
Allows you to diagnose many diseases in asymptomatic stages.
Whole body PET scan Delhi is a universal method, allowing the study of diseases of all body structures (internal organs, bone and muscle tissue, etc.). The process enables obtaining the most accurate data on the location and boundaries of the neoplasm, which is necessary for preparation for surgical treatment, as well as when planning radiation therapy to maximize the preservation of healthy tissues around the tumor focus.
PET / CT is a powerful tool for diagnosing and determining the stage of many types of malignant tumors, including:
Prostate cancer;
Testicular cancer;
Mammary cancer;
Lung cancer;
Colon cancer;
Small bowel cancer;
Rectal cancer;
Stomach cancer;
Laryngeal cancer;
Pancreas cancer;
Skin cancer;
Liver cancer;
Lymphosarcoma;
Hodgkin's lymphoma;
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma;
Bone cancer.
It is important to note that the PET / CT method allows differentiating malignant tumors from benign ones, as well as carrying out early diagnostics.
