A Short Account of Performing 3D Ultrasound Test during Pregnancy

Ultrasound is actually a sound wave with ultra-high frequency wavelengths, which generate images of the fetus from within the womb. The sound waves emit from a probe called transducer that inserted deep into the vagina during the early stages of pregnancy or placed on the abdomen during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of the gestation period. The ultrasound test price is modest and the process poses no threat to the mother or the fetus.

The echo waves ricochet off the wide variety of surfaces of the soft tissues and fluids and money skeletons and form a pattern, which is then transformed into an image that appears on the monitor. There is a variety of ultrasound tests available:

- Standard Scan: This form of scanning is conducted during the early stages of pregnancy, wherein the transducer is placed on the abdomen. It produces concise pulse ultrasounds of low exposure.

- Transvaginal Ultrasound: This is another form of test conducted during the early stages of pregnancy, wherein a probe is inserted deep inside the vagina, thus producing high exposure rates, much because of the close proximity of the probe to the fetus that is still in its nascent stage. This is an uncomfortable procedure as is often light-heartedly termed as ‘diagnostic or medical rape’ by some quarters.

- Doppler Ultrasound: This is one of the most common methods used by most of the obstetricians as well as midwives all over the world. In this method, the probe generates a relatively lower exposure level of sound.

- Fetal Monitors: This method is used during the final stages of pregnancy, particularly duringlabor for monitoring the position of the fully-grown baby and its heart level. In this method, a higher exposure level is used.

- 3D Ultrasound: Understandably, this method is used for generating 3D images for the fetus, while it is still in its development stage

- Dynamic3D or 4D ultrasound: This test is conducted by specially developed scanners to capture clear images of the face and even the minor movements of the baby, to ascertain if there is any physical impairment or any other abnormality

- Fetal Echocardiography: This test uses ultrasound waves for assessing the condition of the baby’s heart in case any congenital disorder is suspected

Why is 3D ultrasound considered more over other options?

Following are the reasons that make 3D ultrasound all the more popular than other forms of tests:

1) The ultrasound charges in Delhi and all over the world including Delhi and rest of the country is pretty modest and is affordable for people from every walk of life

2) Thanks to the vaginal ultrasound method, it is possible to confirm pregnancy even at the earliest stage

3) It can detect multiple births

4) With the help of this method, it is possible to unmistakably calculate the expected death of birth, by measuring the development of fetus skull, femur as well as the length of the crown-rump (conducted during the 2nd trimester of the gestation period)

5) It’s possible to inspect the fetal organs to clear ascertain their development and growth

6) Determine the sex of the fetus (in places where it is legal)

7) Verify the position of the fetus and if there is a breech presentation (a case when the fetus is positioned in a longitudinal manner with its buttock or feet getting closest to the cervix)

8) It helps in the inspection of the placenta and the placement thereof

Thus, with these benefits ultrasound test is the best option to ascertain the health of the fetus during various stages of pregnancy.
